Bailey, Christopher
Fashion Designer
Christopher Bailey is design director of the largest British luxury goods brand, Burberry. Born in 1971, Bailey attended London’s Royal College Of Art, graduating with a Masters in Fashion in 1994. Moving to New York, he worked for Donna Karan before becoming Senior Designer for Gucci womenswear in 1996. He arrived at Burberry in 2001 and has already received great applause for his work on both the men’s and women’s collections. Prorsum, the company’s motto, is Latin for forward – something which seems particularly fitting for this relatively young designer, already a key player in British fashion’s future. Renowned for his hands-on approach to design and an enthusiasm for the details, he continues to propel the brand into the 21st century with his customary passion, enthusiasm and cheerful demeanour. In acknowledgement of his many successes, the Royal College of Art awarded Bailey an Honorary Fellowship in 2003.
